The Tornado Combat Aircraft is an all-weather, day and night, multi-role, swing-wing, supersonic weapons system fulfilling the following major roles:
Counter Air:
- Offensive Counter Air (OCA)
- Suppression of Enemy Air Defence (SEAD)
- Defensive Counter Air
- Active Air Defence (AAD)
Counter Land:
- Air Interdiction (AI)
- Surface Attack Operations (SAO)
- Close Air Support
- Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance (SCAR)
- Tactical Air Reconnaissance (TAR)
Counter Sea:
- Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW)
The Tornado Weapon System is the battle proven backbone of Europe´s contribution to the NATO´s airborne defence. Tornado plays an indispensable role in both international peace keeping activities and rapid reaction forces.
